Soma Birds lagoon which is located near Dr. Salim Ali Bird sanctuary, It is one of the most famous bird sanctuaries in India. It has been named after the famous ornithologist of India, Dr. Salim Ali. This bird sanctuary is one of the bird sanctuaries in India and is spread over an area of just 25 kilometers. it has a variety of species of birds and plants. Numerous tourists visit this sanctuary to observe the delightful winged creatures. Dr. Salim Ali bird sanctuary houses not just local but exotic migratory birds as well.

The Thattekad Bird Sanctuary has a rich and varied birdlife. Several species of birds, both forest birds as well as the water birds, visit the Sanctuary. Ornithologists who conduct frequent birding camps have identified over 280 species of birds in the area including Crimson-throated Barbet, Sunbird, Fairy Blue bird and a few varieties of hornbill family. Dr Ali described Thattekad in the 1930s as the richest bird habitat in peninsular India, comparable only with the eastern Himalayas.
